offers Wellness Program for seniors 1/30/01 - The Seniors
Participating in Activities Relating to Health at Kennesaw State (SPARHKS) program
will begin in February for any interested senior citizens. The program will be
held every Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from Feb. 9 through Apr. 6 at the Physical
Education Gymnasium on campus. Exercise and Health Science majors and volunteers
work together with older adults to teach them about fitness, recreational activities
and the benefits of being physically active. The SPARHKS program offers
a variety of activities including strength training, water aerobics and movement
games, bowling, volleyball, low-impact aerobics, walking and Tai Chi. Also offered
are educational wellness presentations and an opportunity to meet new people in
the community. The SPARHKS program began in 1997 from a training grant from the
University of Maryland's Adult Health and Development program and continues to
offer classes in the spring and fall semesters through the department of Health,
Physical Education and Sport Science (HPS). To register for this program
by Thurs., Feb. 8, call SPARHKS director, Diane Lowry at 770/423-6488, or HPS
at 770/423-6216. A nominal fee is charged for the eight-session program. The College
of Health and Human Services currently offers degree programs in exercise and
health science, health and physical education, nursing, human services, sport
management and a graduate program in primary care nursing. |
